The new Picpack release see’s two of the most interesting producers in Galway splitting a release, supplying a track each for this free download. Jimmy Penguin leads the way with “Beans” a dark and stark affair. The intro does a great job of being haunting without being weak (it can happen) and the track suddenly drops down into a very nice blazed out beat and deep drawn out bass. There is some very nice skippy glitch style work being done throughout that adds interest to the track without being aggressive to the ear. A great structure and progression is in place as the track slowly complicates and builds upon itself before hitting a beautifully drawn out outro and the whole things feels like it would work very well in a soundtrack for a film that was dark enough and gritty enough to need it.

“Flames” from Kanobi ups the pace a little and falls somewhere into the rough boundaries  of trip-hop. A deep groove in the drums carries the track, excellent use of some effected guitar and a deep bass set a rolling texture on it’s way that is nicely complimented by vocal samples and assorted synths.

A very nicely release that you can download here.
