Gerry Read does housey garage vibes and he does them very well. This release with Dark Arx combines assured song writing with clever dancefloor sensibilities to once again push the boundaries of the genre mashing scene that is Bass Music. “Patterns” is a more House orientated affair with a thumping sub dive driven bass line and those kind of skittering rhythmic percussions that really wouldn’t be out of place on a Hessle or (revamped) R&S release. There is some gorgeous melody and vocal sample interplay going on as well that manages to avoid the pitching convention which has currently grasped the electronic scene.

“Last Time” is where the Garage influence shines through and is a neatly chilled number that would be a delightful addition to the early stages of many a DJ set. It’s got enough thump to move the dance driven by the drums and deep lush sub bass line. There are definitely some classic garage vibes happening here but the energy is dialed down a notch and the resultant tune is silky smooth.
